UGC platforms for brands come in three kinds: marketplaces where creators apply to your brief, managed services that handle everything for you, and creator databases where you find and hire creators directly. They differ more than their marketing suggests, especially on fees, usage rights and how much control you have over who makes your content. This guide explains each kind, compares well-known platforms using prices from their own sites (checked October 20, 2026), and covers briefing and red flags.
Three kinds of UGC platforms
| Kind | How it works | You pay | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| UGC marketplace | You post a brief, vetted creators apply, you pick and pay through the platform | Subscription and/or platform fee plus creator fees | Fast results without sourcing |
| Managed service | A team sources creators, runs briefs and delivers finished videos | A monthly retainer or project fee | Brands with budget and no time |
| Creator database | You search creators, contact them and agree terms directly | A subscription; creators are paid directly | Control, direct relationships and lower fees at volume |
The platforms compared
Insense (marketplace)
According to Insense's pricing page, self-service plans include a one-month Trial at $650, Brand at $500 per month billed quarterly ($400 per month billed yearly) and Agency at $800 per month billed quarterly ($640 per month yearly). Creator payments are budgeted separately, with a marketplace fee of 20% on Trial, 10% on Brand and 7% on Agency. Creators are screened and onboarded, and brands receive perpetual digital usage rights once content is approved and paid for. Integrations with Meta and TikTok send content to your ad accounts. The trial upgrades automatically to the Brand plan unless canceled at least 48 hours before it ends.
JoinBrands (marketplace)
JoinBrands lists a free pay-as-you-go plan with a 15% platform fee, then Start-up at $99 per month (12% fee), Pro at $299 (10%) and Max at $499 (8%), with no lock-in on monthly plans. Content starts at $25+ per UGC video and $10+ per image, the same on every plan, and JoinBrands says purchases include unlimited usage rights. TikTok Spark Ad codes and Instagram partnership ad codes are included on eligible campaigns, and it says most brands receive content within 3 to 7 days.
Billo (marketplace)
Billo is a well-known UGC video marketplace, but its pricing page redirects to its sign-in page, so we couldn't confirm current prices publicly. Check prices inside the app before you compare.
Managed UGC services
Agencies and managed services source creators, write briefs, handle revisions and deliver edited ads. Pricing is usually a monthly retainer or a per-project fee, quoted individually. They save the most time and cost the most money, and they're a good fit when you need a steady pipeline of ad creative and don't have anyone to run it.
topYappers (creator database)
topYappers lets you search 44M+ creators by niche, country, follower range and the products they've already promoted, see who has a contact email and reach out from your own inbox with the Outreach Agent. Our list of male UGC creators shows how bio-based search works: every creator on it describes themselves as a UGC creator. You agree terms and pay creators directly, so there's no marketplace fee on top. $59 per month or $299 per year, with a free start. See pricing.

When a creator database fits better
A database makes more sense than a marketplace when:
- You want to choose exactly who makes your content, including creators who never joined a marketplace.
- You're producing at volume, where a 10% to 20% fee on every creator payment adds up.
- You want long-term relationships, rebooking the same creators directly.
- You also want creators who post to their own audiences, not just UGC for your channels.
A marketplace fits better when you need a first batch of videos quickly and don't want to handle sourcing, contracts or payments.
How to brief UGC creators
Whatever platform you use, the brief decides the result. Keep it to one page:
- Product and problem: what it is and the one problem it solves
- Audience: who should feel spoken to
- Format: length, aspect ratio, voiceover or on-camera, number of hooks
- Must-say points: no more than three
- Do and don't: claims to avoid, competitors not to mention
- Examples: two or three videos you like, from any brand
- Deliverables and rights: edited video, raw clips, usage period and channels
Our guide on how to find UGC creators covers vetting portfolios and usage rights in more detail.
Red flags when choosing a platform
- Vague usage rights. If you can't tell where and for how long you can use the content, assume the worst.
- Fees that aren't on the pricing page. Check fees on creator payments, revisions and rush delivery.
- Auto-renewing trials. Note the cancellation deadline.
- No way to see a creator's past work before you pay.
- Locked-in creator relationships, where you can't work with a creator directly outside the platform.
Frequently asked questions
What is a UGC platform?
A service that connects brands with creators who make content for the brand's own channels and ads. Some are marketplaces where creators apply to briefs, some are managed services, and some are creator databases where you hire creators directly.
How much do UGC platforms cost?
It varies by model. Marketplaces typically combine a subscription with a fee on creator payments, such as Insense's 7% to 20% and JoinBrands' 8% to 15% (checked October 20, 2026). Creator databases charge a subscription and you pay creators directly.
Do UGC platforms include usage rights?
Many do, but terms differ. Insense says brands receive perpetual digital rights once content is approved and paid; JoinBrands says purchases include unlimited usage rights. Always check the exact terms before you buy.
Is it cheaper to hire UGC creators directly?
Often, at volume, because you avoid marketplace fees on every payment. It takes more work: you source creators, agree terms and handle payments yourself.
